Project – Linda’s Keyhole Scarf – Hand-Knit

I have been down in Costa Rica now for three weeks (did you miss me?).  We are in the process of getting dental work done – just as good as the States, but at a third of the cost.

Anyway, of course I have been knitting, working on my new pattern for a sweater with some hand manipulated details, I call it the Bellesimo.  I have notes on the Small and Medium sizes now, but I know I have to do a couple other larger sizes and two different sleeve versions – still a lot of work to go….

But in the meantime, I have worked on some very cute scarves, using some soft novelty yarns that I had in my stash down here – for lack of a sexy name, I am calling it Linda’s Keyhole Scarf.  Yes, of course it has a little ruffly edge (it is my creation afterall!), but if you don’t like the ruffle or if your selected yarn is stiffer than the ones I suggested above, leave it off and just start and end with the 20 stitches.  I took a couple of pictures of them, one with the tape measure showing dimensions:

Here’s the pattern – free to you!

Linda’s Keyhole Scarf

Size 11 (US) knitting needles, 10” long

Yarn: Yarn Bee Jewelsong or Luscious Sparkle or Cameo or any Similar yarn that is soft against the skin

Gauge: 20 sts X 20 rows = 6.5” X 6”

Overall Scarf measures 32” long with 6.5” before Keyhole Section

NOTE: I knit in my tails as I go, so the only one I have to actually weave in is the end tail. It is simpler and has the effect of reinforcing the keyhole somewhat.

Keyhole Scarf Directions:

Cast on 40 sts

Knit 4 rows

Knit 2Tog across next row, 20 sts

Knit even until piece measures 6.5”

Keyhole Section:

Knit 2Tog across next row, 10 sts

Knit 1 row

Next row: Knit 5 sts and put other 5 sts on a stitch holder

Knit 3 rows and cut yarn, leaving a 5” tail.

Put these knit rows on a holder and pick up the stitches on the first holder.

Knit 4 rows starting from the inside edge of Keyhole.

Pick up the rest of the stitches on the holder and knit the row across, 10 sts

Knit 1 row (keyhole complete).

Next row: Knit F&B of all sts across row, 20 sts.

Knit even until piece measures 23” from Keyhole.

Next row: Knit F&B of all sts across row, 40 sts.

Knit 4 rows.

Cast off all stitches, weave in ends.

To wear: Double the scarf section that goes around your neck.  Pull the long end through the Keyhole and adjust it so that the ruffled sections lay next to each other.

Abbreviations:

Sts – Stitches

Knit 2Tog – Knit next two stitches together

Knit F&B – Knit in the Front and Back of next stitch

Hi! I love this pattern. Can you convert it to a crochet pattern?

myblueheavenknits - November 12, 2014

Oh gosh. I don’t do crochet, just machine and hand knit. Maybe from the pictures, you can get the idea of how to convert it, but I never learned how to visualize a pattern through crochet.
