Yarn Bombing Event At Orange County Fair – Fast and Furious July 17, 2012

I have some pictures now of the Yarn Bombing event on Sunday.  We got some coverage in the Orange County Register, an article in the paper and a video online of the event.  I think I saw about 50 people knitting, crocheting, connecting banner flags and covering the cow and benches.  We had quite a nice group for this first time event.  Here are some pics:

Linda Machine Knitting At OC Fair

This was the first time for this type of event for the Orange County Fair staff to put on and it was a real success.  Hopefully they will bring it back for future fairs and get the word out earlier to get even more knitters and crocheters into the swing of things.  I know many knitters who were not able to come, perhaps didn’t get word of it soon enough and they missed a real happening.  I think many fair goers also saw that there is a vibrant group of men and women out there that are crazy about their art and we are coming out of the closet with it.  Perhaps they will get the idea to try it themselves?  Maybe so.

Linda. Fairs are always fun, but usually hot or the other extreme, rainy.
Here in Minnesota our State Fair usually has a million people visit in the 10 days. We have lots of real cows, pigs, sheep, chickens horses etc. etc.
Covering them with knitted things wouldn’t be very good, but we do have a large machine and hand knitting exhibit.
Hope your county continues the new tradition. By the way, our machine knitter dealers spend every day demonstrating what we do also.
Thanks for your note.

Hey there, girlfriend. Yeah, I don’t think the live cows or pigs on display would have appreciated being stitched up in our swatches. The Orange County Fair has a whole section called Centenniel Farm where they have all manner of crops, flowers, fruit trees, goats, pigs, cows, chickens, etc. Families bring all the kiddies to see the baby animals in the show pens. Really a nice little fair. I hope they continue to expand the knitting area. Right now its the attack of the quilters in the show area. Also, they only allow Orange County residents to enter their fair which counts me out as I am in the Los Angeles County, but missed the deadline this year for entry because I have been away so much. Oh well, there is always next year!
